By meeting 28 other amazing, talented, ambitious and kind young women, I truly feel blessed, and I can tell, I have a friend from each country of Europe. Together we learned new skills, had fun and made lasting relationships. I'm truly happy to be part of this!

It would be an understatement to say that the European Leadership Academy was a dream come true. The support and motivation I received have become my driving force. The women who were part of this experience were not only inspirational but admirable in every possible way. They are now my support system, and I know I can rely on them because the connections made there are for a lifetime. The knowledge and confidence this opportunity provided are gifts I will cherish forever. The importance of leadership and friendship in shaping our personal and professional lives cannot be overstated, as both are essential in creating positive change. It may sound cliché, but the best part of the European Leadership Academy were the caring and passionate people who contributed to it, I was truly inspired by the participants’ diverse academic backgrounds and personal stories. As someone who did her Bachelor’s in the social sciences and only recently ventured into STEM, seeing so many young women excelling in science and technology was simultaneously inspiring and motivating. Three weeks after the end of the European Leadership Academy, I now feel the most confident and passionate that I have ever been about my choice to venture into epidemiology and the biomedical sciences, not in spite of, but in addition to my previously mostly humanities-focused educational path. Importantly, the program was completely free of charge— from the flights and accommodation to the substantive workshops and cultural visits. As an ambitious young woman whose family has always struggled financially, the European Leadership academy was a dream come true in many ways, and I would really encourage any and all aspiring young European women leaders to apply! I am looking forward to seeing the different paths that all of us will embark on and am truly grateful for all the friends and connections that I made.

“One week can not dramatically change your life” is what I thought before I came to Poland for the ELA summer school. Well I was wrong - it can. It has developed me so much not only professionally and network -wise, but also mentally and emotionally. I grew as an individual and understood what I need to do personally to become a better leader. I was ready for change, I came to the school with an open mind and I let them reshape me and better me in all ways possible. I networked and communicated with all the speakers and invited guests as much as I possibly could. During your time at European Leadership Academy you will have access to the most beautiful brilliant minds of our time and it is in your hand to use that possibility. Attending the European Leadership Academy Summer School of 2024 was an experience I will cherish forever. I remember the first time I saw a post about the European Leadership Academy. Its bright colors and positive energy drew me to their website, where I was impressed by the diversity, quality speakers, and amazing testimonials. Excited, I applied for their summer school twice and finally got accepted on my third try (or as we say in Croatian, "treća sreća"), representing Croatia in Warsaw! It turned out to be one of the most dynamic, positive, and stylish weeks of my life. It was so much better than I had imagined. The organizing team was top-notch, and everyone was so impressed with the quality of the program. Every day was filled with a variety of activities, each with a different theme that helped us develop specific leadership skills. I especially enjoyed working on our team project throughout the week, as we received personalized feedback and learned to be more effective and uplifting. I am incredibly grateful to you all—thank you for creating such a lovely, supportive community that encourages growth and innovation! To anyone considering applying to the program: 1. Please do apply—and if you don't get accepted the first time, try again. Don't regret not trying to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It might enrich your life; you will meet many inspiring people (and make friends from all around Europe), learn new things, and perhaps come up with innovative ideas. 2. If you don't have a STEM background, please don't get discouraged. The program unites young leaders with diverse expertise. Participating in Huawei’s European Leadership Academy in Warsaw was an extraordinary experience that I will cherish forever. Representing Belgium among 29 talented women from across the EU, Ukraine, and the Western Balkans was both an honor and a privilege. The various sessions, workshops, and panels were not only educational but also deeply inspiring. The passion and knowledge of the speakers left a profound impact on me, motivating me to strive for excellence in my own career and make a meaningful change in today’s world. One of the most significant aspects of the academy was the opportunity to connect with like-minded women from diverse backgrounds. The bonds we formed and the stories we shared created a supportive network that I believe will last a lifetime. This sense of community and mutual encouragement was one of the highlights of the week. It was heartening to see how, despite our differences, we lifted each other up and found common ground in our shared passions and hopes for a better future. Programs like these are crucial for fostering the next generation of leaders. They provide a platform for women to learn, grow, and make meaningful connections—things that I believe are essential. This summer school not only empowered individuals but also contributed to a more inclusive and innovative future. I can truly say that the 28 other amazing women I met during this week will make significant changes and help build a better future for the world. There is no better way to describe the Summer School other than "transformational". For the first time in my life I felt that I was introduced to a community of like-minded women who strive to bring change in our world and lift others while doing so. I can still remember the moment I read the email that I had been selected - I was during a team meeting and shortly afterwards the professor didn't see my face again. "A unique journey for which I am eternally grateful: this is how I describe my adventure representing Portugal at the European Leadership Academy Summer School 2023 in my neighboring country, Spain, in the beautiful city of Valencia.

When I received the email saying I had been selected, I was at home. And I'm rarely home, as I'm currently studying in Lisbon, more than 300km from my hometown. I woke up my mother, the person who has always supported me throughout my journey, and we both cried with happiness at this incredible opportunity. From then on, it was history.

Every day in Valencia was special, from the people, the activities, the speeches and workshops, our coaches, the decorations and everyone who accompanied me. I'm not going to lie, it was intense. But it was definitely something I would choose again and go with my eyes closed because it's hard to explain in words everything I experienced.

My great purpose in life is to live intensely, for myself and for those around me. And that's exactly what I experienced, people. People supporting each other, loving each other, sharing experiences, sharing smiles and tears. This is the reality of the world: the human being. And more and more, for all that we suffer from war, from climate change, from all the inequalities, we have to be sure to support each other.

I've learned a lot. I learned to listen more. I've learned to support more. I've learned to love more. After all the learning, a spectacular networking, and a huge inner transformation, I can say that the life each human being leads should be one of love, connection and above all of being good to the other. A true leader leads with purpose their group never leaving anyone behind. That is what leadership is about. We have a duty as citizens of the world to educate our generation and the one that will come after for a more sustainable world with gender equality in every field. The road is long, but although ‘alone we go faster, together we go further’.

Not only that, but I'd also like to thank you for the award you gave me, which I really appreciate. I've always considered myself to be very dynamic and creative in all the projects I've been involved with, and as an Engineer by training, about to finish a master's degree in the same field, it was extremely important to hear from a special person that I had received the Youth Innovation Star award. Being a Star for me means reaching higher than the sky, it means being able to fly further and further. And I believe in myself, in my abilities and that I can make a difference in this world!

"Sisterhood, support and inspiration are just some of the aspects that we have experienced! The European Leadership Academy is an exceptional and priceless program which opened our horizons for the future. For me, one of the best characteristics of the program was its holistic approach. "A truly unique and life-changing experience! I applied for the Winter School quite spontaneously, thinking it was just a course like any other. However, the moment I arrived in Nice, I realized how special and important this opportunity was going to be for me. Since Day 1 our program was packed with different masterclasses, panels, and workshops, giving us many opportunities to network and get to know each other. "The week felt surreal, sometimes I still can't believe that I was able to join such an amazing group of women to learn and grow together. All the expectations on the variety and the high profile of the team and the speakers were met if not exceeded. "It is no exaggeration to say that this Winter School was a turning point in my life. When I was getting ready to fly to Nice, I could not have imagined the life-changing adventure I was about to embark on. The School was filled with panels, interactive workshops and networking sessions that gave me the chance to hear from inspiring leaders and policy-makers who are paving the way towards a more inclusive and technologically advanced European future. We all then used this newfound knowledge to write a policy brief on the promotion of digital skills and pitch our team's proposition to a panel of experts. I have so much to learn from them, and I cannot wait for our friendship and our community to evolve into something much bigger. "Where do I even begin - the Winter School in Nice is a week that I will cherish forever. The friendships created, the knowledge acquired and the journey of self-development are all experiences that have truely impacted me. Firstly the panel discussions and guest speakers left me with an abundance of new knowledge and new perspectives. On the first day we were given a notebook and by the end of the week I had it filled with snippets of insights I had noted down from the guest speakers. The calibre of speakers was inspiring, each one was so incredibly influential to shaping the EU in their own ways. The week also allowed me to understand the power that I have as a young woman to make a real difference. Previously I often doubted myself and my abilities but the Winter School helped me to erase these doubts and to start building my confidence. For example, I am quite introverted and I always thought of that as a weakness of mine but I learned to love that part of myself and to realise that it is in fact one of my strengths. Finally, the most important part of the week to me was being able to spend it with the 27 other girls. What an incredibly inspring group of women. To leave Nice with 27 new friends all across Europe is so special but also to have this network of women, a sisterhood, that is supporting each other in all our future ventures is something I feel very lucky to have. I can't recommend enough for everyone reading this to apply to any upcoming Winter and Summer Schools, it is an experience that really is once in a lifetime. " 'It would be great to spend one week in Nice at the end of February.' That was my first thought before I applied to the program. To be honest, I did not know what to expect, and of course I do not regret applying at the end. The whole experience was wonderful! Being around girls from 27 different countries was so inspiring and heart-warming, as I had the chance to get to know their stories and dreams for the future. Except from the other girls, I had the chance to meet and talk with successful people, who enjoy what they are doing and whose aim is to make a better world. With today’s circumstances, it seems that we need more and more of such people, people who want the best for their community, the best for Europe. All the speakers, the workshops, the spotlights, the panels where amazing, and made me more inspired and ready to make a change. The program brought to my mind a quote: “A small step for human, a big step for humanity.” Yes, by taking one girl from each country is a small step, but for humanity is a big one, and it can change more than we think. I owe a huge THANK YOU to the people who made this possible! So, at the end, the week was worth it a lot more than I thought, and it was one of the best weeks I had in my life so far! Do not hesitate, just go for it, and you won’t regret it!"

"Now that this intense week has come to an end I can affirm that European Leadership Academy has been one of the most upbeat experiences I have ever had the opportunity to be part of. I think it would have been impossible to get the learnings I gained through this week anywhere else, because it goes beyond what an academic experience can offer as it provides an insight of Europe and their talent through the eyes and stories of all the professionals who joined us in the course of this week. Bringing together future leaders of Europe with the actual leaders who are currently making an impact in our society from various fields discussing all of the digital age, discussing the importance of empowering women to become leaders… has given me hope, we have a bright future ahead because there are people working actively for this to be a reality. After this week I can ensure there is an existing generational renewal in each and every single one of the European Union countries. There is something very valuable that I am taking back to Spain after this week is over and that is the support of 28 strong and empowered women that I now consider not only my friends but my sisters. This week has been very challenging and if I have managed to get the best out of it has been because at all times I have felt supported by this network that we have created and that is very valuable. I can now say that applying to this program was one of the best decisions I have ever made even though at the beginning I had many doubts about doing it. I remember that the first time I read the call for applicants and the summary of the course, the first question which popped into my mind was "Is this for me?” I do not come from an academic background that is technological, I study Law and Business Administration. Knowing that this whole process is over I have understood why the program is not only closed for STEM students. I have learned that if we want to reach a digital era that truly leaves no one behind, profiles from all areas of knowledge are needed. My best advice is to do it, if you are interested in the digital age, in leadership, in the European Union and if you want to generate a positive impact on society, do not think twice and send your application. Finally, I would like to thank the entire Huawei team that has made all this possible and especially Berta who has made this idea a reality and has inspired me and all my colleagues to follow our dreams. The Summer School for Female Leadership in the Digital Age is so much more than its title, its programme, its sponsors... It goes beyond the borders of countries and the limits of the imagination. "Honestly, I am l truly honoured yet humbled for being given a chance to proudly represent my beloved country and to network with inspiring speakers and intelligent smart young women from all over around Europe, who not only quickly became my friends but we have also created an amazing community. "Packing your bags and flying to new places to discover is always a life-changing experience, a time to create unforgettable memories, make special friends and grow into a better version of ourselves. The Summer School for Female Leadership in the Digital Age offers the “premium version” of all this. Inspiring panels and debates, enriching workshops, a safe space where everyone is welcomed, listened and valued, exclusive field trips and most importantly culture exchange with incredible people in wonderful venues: this is what I got in Lisbon and what I encourage everybody to apply for. "No words can encapsulate how amazing this experience was. I was humbled and inspired by each of the 26 individual stories that I heard during the week. This week came to me at a perfect time. Having read the recent report on climate change as well as reading the news on what is currently going on in the world made me feel almost helpless, but this week has truly bought back my spark for making the world a better place. "When I applied to the summer school I was expecting a normal school-like program with teachers giving lectures, students listening and then having one exam to finish. But this program has far exceeded my expectations on every aspect. During the week we dived into coding in python, learning about nanotechnology and the digital media/marketing. With having real life role models with us in the school and being able not only to ask one short question but also having a chance to chat with them during lunch has helped so they got to know us as well. The speakers of the week felt more like mentors rather than teachers.
The program was a perfect combination of learning about the digitization as well as to develop our network. Working on a project with young female talents coming from different backgrounds gave me an experience that differs from the regular academic projects that you usually do with your classmates of your own faculty. If you are interested in tech and curious how can tech be used in various industries this program is designed for you. (Also, it's a great knowing that wherever I go in the EU I will have a friend in each 27 countries. :) )"

Each of them has already achieved so much despite their age in different fields from technology to politics! "The summer school was truly one of the most incredible experiences in my life. I met many inspiring women (and men) that already made their way in tech, politics, media or other areas and until this day I still use all the advice they gave. It was also incredible to meet the other 26 likeminded participants. We all encouraged and learned a lot from each other. Even after the summer school, I know that we will always be there to support each other. All in all, I grew a lot both personally and professionally through this experience. Besides of that it was an incredibly fun week talking about subjects that really matter to me, namely tech and equality while also having nice dinners, sightseeing Lisbon and singing Mamma Mia songs in a beautiful vineyard. "Once you consider applying, that's a good start. You're half way there! You can never know what's going to happen unless you give it a shot! Even when you think that you have the slightest chance to be accepted. So the best piece of advice that I could give is always try things out. Just apply! Keep one thing in mind: If you don't get accepted it's totally fine, because you tried! But if you receive the acceptance email, get ready because there is a unique experience ahead of you! "I loved that the summer school exposed me to leaders from backgrounds completely different from my own. It was the first time I could really interact and learn from people in politics and journalism. This gave me a lot of new perspectives and ideas, which I think helps a lot in developing leadership skills and choosing a career. The program had a great mix of speeches, workshops, and social events, and the effort Huawei made for us was incredible!"

If you maybe got interested in applying to the Summer School because of all the lectures and lecturers you would get to listen to, I can tell you it is only the beginning. What matters most is the profound connection you get to make with not only 26 other amazing and inspiring young women, but also with all the speakers.
So I would strongly recommend anyone even mildy interested in any of the topics to apply, because in the "worst case" scenario the summer school will expand your horizons in ways you didn't even know were possible. 10/10 would recommend!

I’m genuinely grateful that I got to the chance of being part of this Summer School experience. The whole trip was beyond my expectations, and I did indeed find some beautiful friendships during this trip as well. Thank you for that. I do believe the gender imbalance in society should be broken through collaboration and I do believe we all; companies, the governments around the world and individuals have a share in that fight. I hope to see other Summer Schools also including trans- and gender nonconforming people. We still, as the European society, leave behind minoritized people of all kinds; BIPOC, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ among others, and programs like this is a way for companies to engage and distribute power to some of these groups. I’m really happy that I applied and got to represent Denmark during these days.

I never imagined that I will be participating in summer school organized by EU Leadership Academy. It was such an honor to represent Estonia in this one week journey. I truly believe that everything is possible if you want it enough... Thank you all for this amazing experience, starting from treasure hunt and ending with amazing gala dinner. This summer school was a great experience in which I got to grow, meet extraordinary people from all around the world and build up the hope that we can and will shape our futures for the better. It was a week of understanding, communication, problem-solving, but also sightseeing and plain fun. What I loved most though, was the feeling of belonging, the feeling that we were all in this together, that no one shall be left behind. What started as a simple application to a Summer School I’d never heard of ended with 26 new friends, dozens of new contacts from a variety of industries, and a week-long unforgettable experience in the centre of Lisbon. From practicing public speaking and leadership, to participating in panels, to exploring Lisbon and the world of coding, every single day, our programme would be completely different and filled with stimulating events. We had so many discussions, my mind still struggles to wrap itself around all the ideas I’ve jolted down in my notebook! But the true magic could be found in between the events, in the small conversations during coffee breaks, walks back to the hotel, or on the bus rides after a few glasses of wine. We laughed, we cried, but most importantly: we shared. The curiosity, passion, and empathy that filled the conference was enthralling. I am grateful to have been surrounded by such a community. Even though it was only a week, I strongly hope to stay connected and see this event continue for the years to come! And if you’re thinking of applying? Don’t wait and don’t doubt yourself: opportunities like this don’t come often.

The EU summer school for female leadership 2021 did not only provide us young women with networking opportunities and a beautiful setting but also inspired me. Being surrounded for 5 days with numerous strong women in leading positions helped me to overcome own internalised stereotypes and be more daring to take a step further myself. Every detail in the organisation and implementation of the school was thought through and was given extra attention. This effort and care were visible and perceptible. Even more, they contributed to an unforgettable and highly appreciated experience.

When I randomly discovered this Summer School for Female Leadership in the Digital Age whilst scrolling on Facebook, I never expected the impact it would have on me. These 5 days in Lisbon have been such a wonderful experience. Quite a hustle and pretty intense too, but very enriching nonetheless. It has opened my eyes, changed my opinion and built up my confidence. It has truly offered us all to put our foot in the door during the network moments. But above all, and what I will cherish the most are friendships we've made and the memories we've created all together.
