The Women's Academy for Rural Innovation 2022

23.10 - 28.10 2022, Spain

The Women’s Academy for Rural Innovation seeks to empower women from rural areas to seize the opportunities that digital innovation presents for their communities to thrive and prosper. It looks to close both the gender gap and the urban-rural divide and ensure that the benefits of digitalisation reach deep into Europe’s rural heartlands.

The inaugural edition of The Women’s Academy for Rural Innovation was held in Spain in October 2022. It gathered 15 women living and working in Europe’s regions - each from a different EU Member State. Participants were selected by an independent jury comprised of inspiring women from across Europe and joined a week-long programme of masterclasses, team projects, active learning and open debates. They were taught and mentored by experts who supported them in envisaging a sustainable future where no one gets left behind.

Here is a collection of photos and videos of the week. A host of memories that will live with participants for many years to come.

Bukky (Ireland), Madalena (Portugal), Kristina (Sweden) and Elia (Greece) made sure that the priorities of Europe’s Youth were aired at the very heart of EU policymaking. They visited the European Parliament to meet with a host of MEPs and also got to join Executive Meetings on both Feminist Foreign Policy and Equality and Diversity in the EU. They discussed a wide range of issues from Europe’s quest for real and effective equality, to young people’s role in the future of the continent.

The Schools for Female Leadership in the Digital Age empower young women to shape our common future. In April 2022 four alumnae from the 2022 Winter School in Nice got to do just that. Our aspiring leaders got to raise the voice of Europe’s youth in the centre of EU policymaking. They met with members of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council, as well as with the women shaping Brussels from within the capital’s business and media scenes. Our #NextGenChangeMakers joined a series of lively debates, discussing issues ranging from young people’s role in the future of the continent through to the challenges facing our digital society.
